Logistics
When should I arrive and when can I leave?
Plan to arrive by Sunday, July 5 at 2:00 pm PT. Departures should be no earlier than the following Sunday at 1:00 am PT so we get the full eight days together. A few early birds are landing Saturday July 4 — they're welcome to join the noon church service.
Why is the schedule so chill?
On purpose. The trip is designed for relaxing, not running. In most cases there's a low-key day between outings so the grandparents, toddlers, and jet-lagged travelers can breathe.
What time zone is everything in?
Pacific Time (PT). That's 3 hours behind Eastern / Cayman, 2 hours behind Central, 1 behind Mountain, 4 hours behind Barbados, and 1 hour behind Costa Rica.
What's the dress code?
Casual + pool-ready almost every day. Two exceptions: the Saturday church services (smart casual) and the celebration evening. No specific colors have been picked yet, except for the celebration evening — details to follow.
When does trash go out?
Thursday evening. Whoever is around that night, please pull the bins to the curb.
Who do I text when I'm close to the house?
Text the host when you're about 20 minutes out so someone can meet you at the door and help with bags.
Travel
Which airport should I fly into?
ONT (Ontario) is closest and easiest. LAX, SNA (John Wayne), and PSP (Palm Springs) all work too — add them on your arrival card so we can coordinate rides.
Do I need a rental car?
Not required — there are enough seats across the group cars for day trips. If you want freedom to come and go on your own schedule, a rental is nice but optional.
Why aren't we doing Sequoia / Yosemite / Lake Tahoe?
Distance. Each of those would mean 6–8 hours of driving each way, plus an overnight. We'd rather spend that time around the pool with each other.
How do I share my flight info?
Use the Arrival board on the homepage and the Departure board (linked in the header). Add airline, flight number, airport, and time in PT.
Food
Who is cooking each night?
We're rotating crews. The crew assigned to a meal is responsible for that meal — including buying the groceries for it.
How does grocery shopping work?
The cooking crew for a meal also handles the grocery run for that meal. Keep receipts if you want to settle up later.
What if I have a food allergy or dietary need?
Flag it on your RSVP / Who's Coming card. The cooking crews will check the list before they shop.
Are kids' meals handled separately?
No — kid-friendly options are baked into each menu. If your kid is extra picky, bring a few backup snacks just in case.
Activities
Do I have to do every outing?
Nope. Every outing is optional. The house, pool, and a stocked fridge are always Plan B.
What's the most expensive day?
Tuesday in Palm Springs — Windmill Tour (~$60/person) plus the Red Jeep Tour (~$150/person). See the Day-by-Day briefing for the full cost breakdown.
How does Wednesday's A/B/C plan work?
Wednesday is a flex day. Either the whole family picks one option the night before, OR we split into up to three groups and all three (Air Museum, LA + La Brea, Beach) happen the same day.
Are tickets for the Reagan Library handled?
Yes — the host buys all Reagan Library tickets in advance so we get the same time slot (July sells out fast). Zelle your share to the host once your headcount is confirmed. Don't buy your own.
House
How are bedrooms assigned?
Bedrooms will be assigned closer to the trip. Once decided, the host will post the room list — no need to claim a room ahead of time.
Where is the WiFi password / spare key?
Both live in the locked House Rules panel. Unlock it with the family password (same one used for posting photos and bingo evidence).
Is the pool kid-safe?
Adults need to be present whenever kids are in or near the pool. House rule, no exceptions.
Money
How do we split costs?
The host buys all outing/tour/museum tickets together (Windmill, Red Jeep, Reagan Library, Air Museum, Arena tour, etc.) so we all get the same time slot — reimburse your share via Zelle to the host. Groceries are fronted by the cooking crew — keep receipts and we'll square up at the end of the week.
Do I tip the tour guides?
Yes — $5–10 per person is standard for the Windmill and Jeep tours. Bring small bills.
Kids & Pets
Can I bring my dog?
No. No dogs or pets at the house this trip — please make boarding or sitter arrangements before you travel.
Misc
What if I think of a question that's not on this list?
Text the host directly. We'll add it here so the next person doesn't have to ask.
